Anadarko Basin

The Anadarko Basin is located in the eastern portion of the Texas Panhandle. It spans across Oklahoma, Kansas, and Colorado. Oil and gas fields within the basin include the Elk City Field, Hugoton-Panhandle Gas Field, Union City Field, and the West Edmond Field.

Barnett Shale

The Barnett Shale is located in the Bend Arch-Fort Worth Basin. It is believed to have the largest reserves of an onshore natural gas field in the United States.

Cliffside Gas Field

The Cliffside Gas Field is located in the Texas Panhandle, northwest of Amarillo, Texas. It is recognized as a national helium reserve.

Cline Shale

The Cline Shale, also known as Spraberry, Wolfberry, and Wolfcamp, is located east of Midland, Texas and stretches across 10 counties: Borden, Coke, Fisher, Glasscock, Howard, Mitchell, Nolan, Tom Green, Scurry, and Sterling.

Cotton Valley

The Cotton Valley is located in Northeast Texas and Northwest Louisiana. It mainly produces natural gas with some oil being produced as well.

Eagle Ford Group (Shale)

The Eagle Ford Group (Shale) is 50 miles wide and stretches from the Texas-Mexico border and extends 400 miles towards East Texas.

Delaware Basin

The Delaware Basin is located in West Texas and southern New Mexico. It covers over 6.4 million acres and stretches from Alpine, Texas, north to Carlsbad, New Mexico. The Delaware Basin will continue to produce oil and gas for the foreseeable future.

East Texas Oil Field

The East Texas Oil Field is located across 5 counties in East Texas, covering approximately 140,000 acres. It is the second largest oil field in the United States. Over 5.5 billion barrels of oil have been produced.

Fort Worth Basin

The Fort Worth Basin, also known as the Bend Arch-Fort Worth Basin, is located east of the Permian Basin, in northern Texas and southwestern Oklahoma.

Granite Wash

The Granite Wash is located in the Texas Panhandle and western Oklahoma. It is a significant production area for oil and gas in Texas.

Haynesville Shale

The Haynesville Shale is located in East Texas, and spans into southwestern Arkansas, and northwest Louisiana. The Haynesville Shale covers an area of about 9,000 square miles and contains large amounts of natural gas.

Marfa Basin

The Marfa Basin is located on the western side of the Permian Basin. It is smaller than the Delaware and Midland Basins, yet still has potential for successful yields of natural gas.

Permian Basin

The Permian Basin is located located in western Texas and southeastern New Mexico. It stretches from Lubbock, Midland, and Odessa, to the Rio Grand River in southern West Central Texas. Midland, Odessa, and San Angelo serve as the headquarters for oil production.

Slaughter Field

Slaughter Field is located 40 miles west of Lubbock, Texas. It spans over 100,000 acres and in 2015 was ranked the 25th out of 100 “Top U.S. Oil and Gas Fields” by the United States Energy Information Administration. 

Western Gulf Basin

The Western Gulf Basin, also known as the Gulf Coast Basin, is located in southern Texas, extending from the Texas-Mexico border and stretching to Louisiana. As of 2019, it has proved 26.6 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves. The Western Gulf Basin is now considered to be the second most productive oil basin in the United States.

Yates Field

Yates Field is located in the Permian Basin of west Texas. It is one of the largest oil fields in the United States, having produced over 1 billion barrels of oil.
